Central University of Gujarat was established by the Parliament of India through the Central Universities Act (2009). Currently functioning from its temporary premises in Sectors 29 and 30 of Gandhinagar, the university has been allocated 100 acres of land near Vadodara by the Government of Gujarat. Central University of Gujarat was ranked overall 60th in India and 2nd among all the universities in Gujarat in NIRF 2016 rankings. According to NIRF 2017, CUG was among the top 150 universities in India. The university was also awarded a B++ grade in the NAAC ranking of 2016.

Central University of Gujarat admissions are offered in UG and PG courses in a wide range of disciplines. Before applying for admission candidates must meet the eligibility criteria. The central library at Central University of Gujarat is a hub of books, ebooks, journals and online databases that are accessible through the campus wide Ethernet network. Both CUG campuses are well-connected to the library via internet and intranet. It holds about 38450 books and 4367 eBooks, and over 8903+ e-journals for all categories of students. It is also centrally subscribed to more than one lakh econtent on SAGE Research Methods Online for users. It is equipped with RFID technology for security of books as well as self-check-in and self-checkout facilities.
CUG Hostels
Keeping in mind the temporary campus, Central University of Gujarat hostel accommodation is limited. Hostel facilities are allotted through the office of DSW only. CUG provides hostel accommodation to both men and women in buildings that are hired from the state government or private providers. All hostels have a computer room as well as a TV room for entertainment purposes. Central University of Gujarat hostel fee is in accordance with the norms of the university. Students may also opt for private accommodation on a shared basis in the city of Gandhinagar.
