About Central University of Gujarat

Central University of Gujarat was established by the Parliament of India through the Central Universities Act (2009). Currently functioning from its temporary premises in Sectors 29 and 30 of Gandhinagar, the university has been allocated 100 acres of land near Vadodara by the Government of Gujarat. Central University of Gujarat was ranked overall 60th in India and 2nd among all the universities in Gujarat in NIRF 2016 rankings. According to NIRF 2017, CUG was among the top 150 universities in India. The university was also awarded a B++ grade in the NAAC ranking of 2016. 

There are 50+ programmes offered at Central University of Gujarat under 11 Schools. They range from BA, M.A, M.Sc, M.Ed, and M.Phil to PhD programmes covering multidisciplinary subjects like Humanities, Languages, Education, Social Sciences and so on. Admission at CUG is based on the CUET as well as course-wise eligibility criteria.

Central University of Gujarat has a uniform fee structure based on the programs of study, with a few exceptions. CUG fee is an addition of different aspects like tuition fee, enrollment fee, library fee, registration fee, examination fee, medical and student insurance, etc. Some of them are to be paid on yearly basis, some others on a semester basis. Central University of Gujarat admissions are offered in UG and PG courses in a wide range of disciplines. Before applying for admission candidates must meet the eligibility criteria. CUG eligibility criteria differs in accordance with the courses. Alongwith fulfilling the course-wise eligibility, candidates must also qualify for the CUET for BA, MA and M.Sc programs for Central University of Gujarat admission. For PhD, CUG entrance test is compulsory for all candidates. Candidates are also expected to have a UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) SLET/GATE and related qualifications. 

  • CUG Eligibility for UG: 10 + 2 or equivalent. CUET qualification. 
  • CUG Eligibility for PG: Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in relevant discipline. 50% marks in aggregate for general, 45% for reserved categories. 
  • CUG Eligibility for PhD: Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant discipline. 50% marks in aggregate for general, 45% for reserved categories. UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) SLET/GATE or related qualification. Qualify for CUG entrance test and the personal interview.
  • CUG Eligibility for M.Ed: Candidate with at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in any one of the following programmes:B.Ed, B.A. B.Ed. / B.Sc. B.Ed. (Integrated), B. El. Ed., D. El. Ed. /D.Ed./P.T.C. (Two years full-time programme recognized by NCTE) with an undergraduate/ bachelor degree (with 50% marks in each). 

Central University of Gujarat Application Process 2024

  • CUG application process and admission for BA, MA, M.Sc and M.Ed is based on the CUET. Students may register for the test by visiting the official website of CUET, cuet.samarth.ac.in
  • After registering and appearing for the test, the CUET merit list will be declared. Successful candidates are required to visit the university with prescribed documents for counseling.
  • Along with the CUET scores, the candidates must also fulfill the specific eligibility criteria for the respective CUG courses. 
  • CUG merit list will be declared after the final counseling. The candidates will be called upon for admission and verification of documents. 
  • Candidates need to carry their original documents and complete CUG admission process after paying the fee. CUG admission fee includes enrolment fee, general security deposit, library fee, exam fee, etc.

Central University of Gujarat Campus Facilities and Infrastructure

Central University of Gujarat campus is well-equipped with all necessary amenities. From smart classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, well stacked library to fully furnished hostel rooms, the university offers it all.

All classrooms have LCD projectors and audio–visual teaching aids for lectures, presentations etc. CUG also provides special sessions and remedial coaching classes for spoken English, NET-SET exams, and analytical skills enhancement. There are two seminar halls and four conference halls with 50 to 250 seating capacity to host conferences and other events. With 10 state-of-the-art science laboratories, 1 GBPS broadband connection, students can take advantage of a wide range of software, communication and print service for effective learning.

CUG Central Library 

The central library at Central University of Gujarat is a hub of books, ebooks, journals and online databases that are accessible through the campus wide Ethernet network. Both CUG campuses are well-connected to the library via internet and intranet. It holds about 38450 books and 4367 eBooks, and over 8903+ e-journals for all categories of students. It is also centrally subscribed to more than one lakh econtent on SAGE Research Methods Online for users. It is equipped with RFID technology for security of books as well as self-check-in and self-checkout facilities.

CUG Hostels 

Keeping in mind the temporary campus, Central University of Gujarat hostel accommodation is limited. Hostel facilities are allotted through the office of DSW only. CUG provides hostel accommodation to both men and women in buildings that are hired from the state government or private providers. All hostels have a computer room as well as a TV room for entertainment purposes. Central University of Gujarat hostel fee is in accordance with the norms of the university. Students may also opt for private accommodation on a shared basis in the city of Gandhinagar.

Central University of Gujarat Scholarships

Central University of Gujarat scholarships supports the education of the students. CUG scholarships are university, state or UGC funded. UGC Non-NET Fellowship is available for M.Phil and PhD students. The key features of this fellowship are as follows:

  • The UGC Non-NET Fellowship is for students who are not in receipt for financial support from any other source registered in any centre of the university.
  • The fellowship grant and duration will be on the basis of funds released by UGC or MHRD.
  • The award of the fellowship will be governed by the UGC provisions and amendments from time to time.
  • M.Phil and PhD students will be granted Rs 5,000 per month with a contingency of Rs 10,000 per year for Science subjects and Rs 8,000 per year for Humanities and Social Sciences subjects. 
  • The maximum duration of this award will be four year for M.Phil and 18 months for PhD.
